Celebrating You & Me
How often have you marveled at the wisdom of children? When they feel comfortable and loved, their honesty and ability to read a situation can be startling. But how do you tap into that wisdom? How do you find out what they are thinking? And why do you want to?
Children establish their sense of self at a very early age. By the time they are pre-teens, they have determined their likes and dislikes about other people and about their own bodies. They have decided how they relate to money, what they can and cannot learn, and whether they believe they are creative. All of these decisions are formed through their relationships with the people in their world.
As parents & grandparents, you want your child / grandchild to build wonderful relationships, respect and care for their bodies, have a positive view of money, feel they can learn anything they want to learn, and tap into their individual creativity. What a laundry list! How do you help your child / grandchild consider all of these areas when you don't even feel secure about them yourself?
Let's go back to the original question: How do you find out what they are thinking? You ask. But what do you ask? And how do you respond to their answers?
Introducing Celebrating You and Me: A Journal for Children and Their Parents.
The first in a series, this journal provides a unique opportunity for a child and an important adult in his or her life to share their views with each other about relationships, creativity, money, learning, and how they view their bodies. Through daily prompts, this journal will guide an exploration of personal self-worth and values while opening opportunities for deeper, meaningful conversations and an understanding between the child and the adult.
